Norwegian Cruise Lines History
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) history began with a ship called The Sunward. December of 1966, The Sunward was purchased for service in England, then relocated to Miami, where the ship became the first ever to offer weekly cruises from the Port of Miami to the Caribbean. Today's Norwegian Cruise Line is innovative and experienced, offering cruise vacations that are stress free, and escape from the demands of every day life. Resort style without pressure is possibly what is meant by "Freestyle Cruising."
Norwegian Cruise Line innovation is evident from their 40 plus year history. Norwegian Cruise Line was the first Caribbean cruise, the first private island (Great Stirrup Cay), the first alternative restaurant, the first internet cafe at sea, the first children's programs, snorkeling programs with instruction, cell phone and Wi-Fi service, and the first bowling alley at sea (do the balls roll straight at sea?).
Norwegian Cruise Line newest ships were delivered in 2007. Over 80 percent of Norwegian Cruise Line capacity will be on big, new, and modern cruise ships.
